Hour of birth
In the spring of 1965, the two diving pioneers Walti Guggenbühl and René Galster laid the foundation stone for the company by founding the first Swiss diving school (then still eurosub) on the island of Elba.
First season from May 1 to October 15
Together with the leading travel company at the time, KUONI, the offer for a diving vacation was advertised and organized.

Exploratory trip to the Sinai
In 1971, shortly after the 6-Day War, a small exploration group made its first foray into the Sinai, which was still under Israeli occupation at the time. What they saw and experienced there was so inspiring that a plan was immediately drawn up, which was first implemented in 1972.

The world-famous diving pioneer and filmmaker Hans Hass visited the diving school, then still eurosub, on the Elba in the summer of 1972. He wanted to see for himself how Walti Guggenbühl and René Galster trained divers in the use of a collar lifejacket and buoyancy compensator.

All beginnings are difficult
What they found there was a diving center in the worst possible condition. Nevertheless, Johann & Verena recognized the potential and made a deal with the Egyptian partner of the Hydrotec dive centre at the time. SUBEX rents the dive center with guest house and the Hydrotec dive boat and operates it on its own account.
